This weekend was spent at my Aunt’s cabin.  This area is so remote it doesn’t even have a town name or cell reception.  It was a perfect weekend that ended way too soon.

Inside the cabin. So cozy.

Sledding with my Aunt. Hana was attached to her all weekend. Too cute.

The hubby working hard to keep the cabin warm.

I didn't want to pummel my brother with a snowball. Hana made me do it:)

Not many deer left around here, but we saw plenty of elk.

Today is grocery day.  That means last night was “What can I make for dinner with what I have left night?”  I had some boneless skinless chicken and a few veggies.  I wasn’t in the mood for a regular chicken stew, so I found a recipe for Moroccan chicken stew.  After adapting it to ingredients I had on  hand here’s what I came up with:

Ingredients

- 1 Tablespoon olive oil

-12 ounces skinless boneless chicken breasts cut into 1 inch pieces

-1.5 cups chopped onion

-2 garlic cloves, minced

-1 tablespoon curry powder

-1 tablespoon cumin

- 1 cinnamon stick

-2 cups red potatoes peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces

-2 cups baby carrots

-2 cups chicken broth

-1/4 cup raisins

-1 cup canned diced tomatoes

Preparation

Heat oil in frying pan over medium high heat.  Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper and saute until light golden but not cooked completely.  About a minute on each side.  Transfer to chicken to bowl.

Saute onions in large heavy pot for about 3 to 5 minutes till golden brown.  Add garlic and stir for 1 minutes.  Add curry powder, cumin, and cinnamon stick and stir 30 seconds.  Add potatoes, carrots, chicken broth, and raisins.  Cover and simmer about 25 minutes or until veggies are tender.  Add tomatoes and chicken.  Simmer for about 5 minutes.

Fairy Applique Skirt

My husband designed this super cool applique about 5 months ago.  I’m not sure why it took so long to make this skirt.  Possibly because I had other things on my sewing to do list.  Maybe because I was a little intimidated by all the small details in the applique.  Or most likely plain old procrastination:)  I’m glad I finally finished it though.  I had fun picking out the fabrics for the different pieces of the fairy.  Sewing it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.  It was pretty time consuming though.

I really really like how this one turned out and I know I’ll make one for myself in the future.  You can get this one at my Etsy store Weeza Wear.

By the way, if you have any great applique ideas let me know.  I love trying new things.

When I asked the little one if she wanted to make or buy Valentines for her preschool, she wanted to make them.  A girl after my own heart:)  With all the snow we’ve been getting the past few days it was a perfect day to work on these.  Except for the cutting, she did it all.  With a mix of markers, stickers, and glitter she finished all thirteen.  I hope her friends love them as much as I do.

I found this great tutorial on the not martha blog showing you how to make a skirt from jeans.  I made it my own by using corduroys and sewing up some patchwork for the front panel.  I think it turned out really nice and what a great way to recycle those pants you have laying around.  Now, to keep them for myself or sell them……hmmmmm:)

Bubble Bobble Patchwork Skirt

Bubble Bobble was one of my favorite old school Nintendo games growing up.  My brother and I would play it hours on end.  I even make my husband play it with me from time to time.  This skirt took me forever to make, but I think it captured the game perfectly.

My super talented hubby designed the dragon Bob for me.  I used the design to make the applique.

Both sides of the skirt have a random patchwork panel.  This is the part that took the longest.  Well worth it though.  I love patchwork and I love this skirt:)
